WASHINGTON, February 01, 2007 -The Public Affairs Council has awarded the National Association of Realtors® with the prestigious Grassroots Innovation Award, in the association category, for its original approaches to grassroots organizing.
NAR was recognized for the Broker Grassroots Involvement Program, in which some of the nation’s largest brokers were provided tools and expertise to educate and activate their Realtor member agents, thereby boosting NAR’s overall grassroots response rate. The program unites large Realtor® brokers on common real estate issues and enables them to mobilize their employees on important Calls For Action, which significantly increased the Realtor® voice with Congress. The program was created in March 2006, and by the end of the year included 24 large brokers representing over 100,000 Realtors®. During that time, participation on NAR Calls For Action rose from 2.5 percent to over 13 percent.
“We are exceptionally proud of the grassroots team at NAR,†said Jerry Giovaniello, NAR senior vice president of government affairs. “With the outstanding support and commitment of NAR Broker Liaison Virginia Cook, we were able to substantially grow this program. Working with GetActive software, our team put a lot of effort and creative ideas together to establish this successful program. It’s wonderful to see our results are being recognized,†said Giovaniello. Cook, from Dallas, is owner of Virginia Cook, REALTORS®.
First presented in 2000, the awards recognize the nation’s best grassroots programs and campaigns. The Grassroots Innovation Award is given to the leading program in each of three categories — Corporate, Association, and Technology. Recipients are chosen by a committee of top grassroots professionals including the winners from previous years.
The Public Affairs Council is the leading association for public affairs professionals. Members of the council are Fortune 500 corporations, emerging growth companies, associations, and consulting firms.
